Chem. 166:397, 1946), which requires biotin, pantothenate (or ,B-alanine), and NA for optimal growth; thiamine is only stimulatory. Pantothenate (or $-alanine) stimulates but is not essential for the growth of CCRF no. 60705. m-Inositol (2.0 ,g/ml) and pyridoxine (2.0 ,g/ml) are only stimulatory, as was the case with T. cremoris ATCC no. 2512. Other vitamins, purines, pyrimidines, etc., had no significant effect upon the growth of CCRF no. 60705. Comparative studies with nonrequiring strains of the same species indicate that the NA requirement of CCRF no. 60705 probably results from genetic blocks similar to those described in Neurospora (Mitchell and Nye, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. 34:1, 1948; Bonner and Beadle, Arch. Biochem. 11:314, 1946), as judged by inability to utilize L-tryptophan, L-kynurenine, or 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid as precursors of NA. Bio-assay and mechanism of action studies with a series of 1, 2-dihydro-s-triazines (Foley, Modest, Cataldo, and Riley, Biochem. Pharmacol., 3:18, 1959) with CCRF no. 60705 in inorganic media, supplemented with NA, biotin, and thiamine, indicates good agreement with data obtained in the usual Lactobacillus arabinosus and NA assay system.

Thioxidase, a new sulfhydryl-oxidizing enzyme from Piricularia oryzae and Polyporus versicolor.

In the course of a study of the enzymes of Piricularia oryzae Cav., the fungus causing the blast disease of rice, it was observed that activity of crude polyphenoloxidase preparations from culture filtrates was not inhibited by sodium diethyldithiocarbamate (DEDTC), a widely used inhibitor of copper-containing enzymes. Further investigation revealed that such preparations contained an enzyme wh...

Ablastmycin, a new anti-piricularia antibiotic.

Kasugamycin which shows preventive effect on rice blast and low toxicity to plants and animals was discovered in a culture filtrate of Actinomycetes. The study on kasugamycin, as described in a previous paper15, established a new screening method to examine the inhibition of Piricularia oryzae growing in an acidic medium prepared with rice plant juice. Applying this screening method, a new anti...

Deisovalerylblastmycin produced by Streptomyces SP.

A new antifungal antibiotic was isolated from the fermentation broth of Streptomyces sp. 5140-A1. Degradation studies of the crystalline antibiotic, m.p. 186 approximately 188 degrees C, C21H28O8N2, suggested Piricularia oryzae and less toxicity against killfish than antimycin A--blastmycin antibiotics.

Study of Biochemical and Molecular Changes of Iranian Rice Cultivars in Interaction with Bacterial Pathogen Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae Causes Leaf Blight Disease

Rice bacterial blight caused by Xanthamonos oryzae pv. oryzae is one of the most destructive bacterial diseases of rice in some areas of rice cultivation in the world, especially in the tropics of Asia. The low efficiency of disease management methods, especially chemical methods, has led to more research on recognizing resistant cultivars and understanding resistance mechanisms through the stu...

Differential Communications between Fungi and Host Plants Revealed by Secretome Analysis of Phylogenetically Related Endophytic and Pathogenic Fungi

During infection, both phytopathogenic and endophytic fungi form intimate contact with living plant cells, and need to resist or disable host defences and modify host metabolism to adapt to their host. Fungi can achieve these changes by secreting proteins and enzymes. A comprehensive comparison of the secretomes of both endophytic and pathogenic fungi can improve our understanding of the intera...
